INTRODUCTION
TO
THE
PROPOSED LUBAVITCH YESHIVA GEDOLA
AND
COMMUNITY CENTRE
BRENTMEAD
PLACE, LONDON NW11
HISTORY
-
The Yeshiva,
an orthodox rabbinical school catering for boys between the
ages of 16 and 18, is currently located in a small school building
in Hampstead Garden Suburb
-
This building
does not suit their needs, and the Yeshiva needs urgent relocation.
SITING
-
The new
site in Brentmead Place is some 2 miles west of the existing
building and is adjacent to the Cricklewood and West Hendon
Regeneration Area
-
The brownfield
site, which faces the North Circular Road (A406), has been created
from a number of smaller parcels of land, and is approximately
0.22 hectares in area
-
The purchase
of No.1 Brentfield Gardens (a semi-detached house) will allow
for the demolition of its single storey garage, and the widening
of the existing narrow access road to Oakfield Court, to provide
an access to the Yeshiva and Oakfield Court via 2 1.8m wide
footways on both sides, and a 5.5m wide carriageway
-
Following
negotiations with the Planning Officers at the London Borough
of Barnet, the new Yeshiva will be located to the southern end
of the site, with its access off the new access road leading
to Oakfield Court
-
Initially,
Nos 17 and 19 Brentmead Place will remain in position but will
be demolished in the future to create a grassed area
- The site
is currently occupied by an electricity sub station, which will
be relocated to an area within the Yeshiva building.
