King Solomon High School

New-build high school in Ilford for the United Synagogue
1465 KSHS
A new secondary school for 1,200 pupils was established by the United Synagogue Trusts on a 17.5 acre site in LB Redbridge between 1990 and 1998, at a construction cost of £6.2M.
Initial exploratory studies were carried out to determine the best layout for the new school to suit its planned phased development, and an “H” plan was selected.
Phase 1, comprising the Ronson and Sugar Wings, contained the initial classrooms, Gym and Dining Hall.
The CDT blocks formed Phase 2, and Phase 3 involved the construction of further classrooms.
The existing school building was retained and refurbished, as was the Sixth Form block.
A recent OFSTED report referred to “… new, well-designed buildings that contribute very effectively to the quality of education provision, and to pupils’ attainment”.
